Washington D.C is full of cool little hidden gems. Last Sunday Greg and I went exploring in Shaw, and we decided to take some pictures in Blagden Alley, an in-transition sort of spot with charming homes, brick walls, a hipster coffee house, and boutique fitness studios. It’s really an old meets new kind of place. My favorite aspect about the alley way though are the murals, particularly of this woman featured in the pictures.
I was feeling a boho, alternative vibe for this shoot, and I wanted to style really effortless pieces that looked almost thrown together to create a totally cool look. I’ve had this gray dress from Urban Outfitters for a couple years now and I still love the fit, the way it flairs out. It’s a great blank canvas dress and fun to pair under sweaters or adorn with layers of necklaces.
Free People basically screams boho, so I thought it the perfect addition to this outfit. This chunky cream cardigan is the definition of cool and effortless for me. It is also so great to keep warm in during the fall months.
To create just the subtlest allure of sexiness (and also not to have bare legs in 50 degree weather), I styled a black knee-high stockings with a lace ruffle and short heeled booties. Sexy doesn’t always have to be in your face, and I think the added height of the heel and the sliver of exposed skin between the stocking and the dress does the trick. A slouchy maroon bag with a shoulder strap finished it off.
This is the perfect fall look. It’s casual, yet sexy, and just oozes confidence. I would wear this for a stroll in a new neighborhood, to brunch, to a girl’s lunch, or on a fun daytime date. The possibilities are endless! It’s especially a fitting look for a place with a lot of character, like Shaw.
