There is nothing more comfortable than a sweater and leggings for a fall day, and a couple weekends ago I got to style a really fun take on this look. Greg and I took Jorge on a long, very beautiful walk to Eastern Market, which is this big outdoor fair that happens every weekend. I love the vibe of Eastern Market and the Capital South neighborhood. There are so many charming row houses and interesting restaurants. We walked around the market, gazed at art, and had lunch at a cute little pizza place, where we sat on the patio and people watched.

Because we were walking for a such a long time, I wanted to dress for comfort. I picked a rich purple tunic sweater, with leather pocket detailing. I love this color for fall because it’s rich and luxurious, yet also functional for matching with pretty much anything. I paired the sweater with one of my favorite leggings, with sheer sides and a polka dot pattern. I think that these are just so much fun to wear! Any basic outfit can be instantly chic and interesting with these leggings, because the details speak for themselves. To complete the look, I slipped into my go-to boots, which are a bit taller than booties, but shorter than knee-highs. It’s a cool height, because it’s not only different, but works really well with a sweater and leggings or a dress and leggings. I also brought my Kate Spade bag, which is just small enough not to be clunky, but still able to fit my essentials. And it has a great shoulder strap.

I love this kind of outfit for casual weekend outings. There are so many combinations of this look, but the formula is simple. Keep the pieces basic and the interest in the details. Start with a sweater, add fun leggings under, and top with comfy boots and an easy-going bag. Happy styling!
