I love a mostly classic, muted-colored look with a bold pop of color. On Sunday, the weather was absolutely gorgeous and Greg and I decided to shoot this outfit on the rooftop of our building., which boasts incredible views of the city.

This dress is Free People, but I actually got it from a shopping app called Gilt. Gilt is a favorite of mine for shopping because it consistently has large sales on brands I love, and great designer collections. I will definitely be talking more about Gilt and the pieces I have bought there in the near future. But back to the dress. The back is of course, what makes it stand out. I love that even though it’s backless, it still passes as casual because of the ties. The material is very soft to the touch. It definitely has that carefree, boho-chic Free People vibe.

I paired it with the pop of color, my red BCBG Generation peep-toe heels. The bows make these so feminine, but the red adds sex appeal. A good high heel is always a must and I feel as though these particular ones can be styled both formally, as well as for more casual occasions. Other pops of color include my bright red lip, which is actually a Rogue Edition Velvet gloss from a brand called Bourjois. I highly recommend this for a deep red lip that stays on for a quite a while. Also, I’ve incorporated some burgundy into the tassels of my drop earrings. The different shades of red really bring the whole outfit together, without being too matchy-matchy or over the top.

We had a lot of fun shooting this look. Sometimes you just need one or two pieces to create a really great outfit. I could wear this out to dinner or a fun summer cocktail party (preferably on a rooftop). The dress, I want to mention, is also in constant rotation in my wardrobe, and I’ve paired it with countless different shoes, from flats, to sandals, to of course, colorful heels.
