I love a good cocktail reception just as much as the next gal. But a lot of them tend to happen right after work, and since most of us can’t run home to change, we have to plan our outfit for the whole day. In this post, I’m giving you an outfit idea for what to wear when both the office and cocktail party.
This dress (in my humble opinion) is the perfect work to night transitional piece. It’s professional, but still has a lot of fun in the details. It’s also at a very reasonable price point, so you don’t have to break the bank for one event, and also won’t have to re-wear to the next. However, this one and this one are also favorites of mine in terms of contrasting dresses, and are just a tad bit pricey. But worth the extravagness.
Back to those details. The back may be one of my favorite parts because it features a small slit, just enough to be sexy if someone notices, but it won’t be the main attraction. I also think the sleeves are romantic and love that the pencil skirt cuts in the front rather than the back. I think this is what elevates a classic basic to event worthy status. Very cocktail party ready.
Of course the shoes make the outfit, so I made sure mine were real standout. I’ve actually had these red shoes forever, but since red is the it color this season, I wanted a fun way to incorporate the trend. I also think a red, white, and black combo is so chic (and perfect for all those holiday parties!). Again, details are key here, and in this case, the bows add a cute feminine touch. I’ve linked my favorite red heels here and here.
I’ll make sure to have outfit recaps of what I wore in NYC this week, so stay tuned! In the meantime, you can check out some sneak peaks on Instagram, along with a gorgeous view of the Manhattan skyline.
October has been kind of a crazy month so far. I’ve had my mom here, been to New York, we’ve got more family coming in next weekend, and maybe a trip to Charlottesville in the works. I haven’t even had time to think of a Halloween costume! Any ideas?
