Ruffle dress as skirt

Ruffle dress as skirt

Wearing: Alexander Wang tank, Lou Lou Boutiques skirt (repurposed dress), Whistle & Wild duster, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Michael Kors Sunglasses, (similar) mules

Happy Monday!

I wore this outfit a couple weeks ago and I was really feeling like doing something creative. So I repurposed a dress as a skirt. This ruffle dress (I call it my cupcake dress) has served me well, and I’ve been able to wear it to tons of places this summer. I did a feature on it in a previous blog post about Miami, which you can read here.

You can wear color on color, here’s how

You can wear color on color, here's how

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Top- Express (similar here, and I also really love this idea), Pants- Loft, Duster- Whistle & Wild (sold out, similar option here), Shoes- Topshop, Earrings- Lou Lou Boutiques (similar here)

Surprise, color! This is the day two outfit of my wear everything in your closet, in order of how it’s hung up challenge. It’s bold, fun, and I really enjoyed sporting this look. Like I wrote in yesterday’s post, it’s helping me get out a bit of a fashion rut and embrace some of the creativity I had lost in my style.

So this top I had bought at Express several years ago, and I always tend to wear it with dark skinny jeans to balance out both the color and the peplum. But I’d done that already and it was time for something different. So what’s different than the usual black? More color of course!

How to wear sparkle to the office

Wearing: black t-shirt- Target (similar here), sparkly top- Nordstrom (a little different look but love this one), skirt- Zara, shoes- Coach (very similar here), watch- Michael Kors

how to wear sparkle to the office

I’ve decided to take on a project with my closet and that project is to wear every piece in my wardrobe; if I can’t bring myself to wear something, it has to go. The catch is that I’m going in order of pieces hung up, which has really started to get the creative juices flowing. No matter the day, if it’s next it has to be incorporated. The goal is to rediscover my clothes, and make room for new loves.

Instagram Outfit Roundup

Photography: Greg Beuning

I’ve decided to do an Instagram outfit roundup, and gather a bunch of the outfit of the day shots I’ve been sharing and compile a sort of lookbook for you guys. I’m not going to link all the pieces (since that would take a long while), but I’ll point out some favorites and discuss them a bit.

Levi’s and florals

Wearing: Top- LC Lauren Conrad, Jeans- Levi’s, Shoes- Coach, Sunglasses- Michael Kors, Bag- Zac Posen

These jeans give my little blogger self life. In a previous decade they may have bordered mom jean territory, but here today, they are effortless perfection. I love the high waist, the buttons, the distressed elements, the cuffed hem. They can be casual or not depending on the pairing, and as I like to say, you just can’t beat that kind of versatility.

Wearing: Dress- Cotton Emporium (unfortunately sold out but I’ve linked others in the post), Sandals- Sam Edelman (on sale!), Sunglasses- Michael Kors (should I get new sunglasses- is it time? What do you guys think of these), Bag- Rebecca Minkoff (similar)

Happy Friday!

I’m a big fan of velvet. And even though it’s not traditionally appropriate for D.C summers, I feel as though this easy t-shirt dress just might make the cut.

Summer tank and skirt idea

Wearing: Top- Loft (similar option), Skirt- White House Black Market (similar, but equally as cute and on sale!), Shoes- Schutz Shoes (I’ve shared the exact pair I’m wearing several times, so here’s a different option that’s a bit more embellished), Jewelry- Midori Linea, Sunglasses- Michael Kors (some cool color options available)

Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone is having a relaxing and fun day off, and have thoroughly enjoyed the long weekend! I’ve been in Minneapolis with my family, and attended a wedding yesterday. I’m headed off to brunch (with a build your own bloody bar- so excited!) before my flight this evening. I’ll have all the outfit details and recap up soon, but for now you can get all the latest updates on Instagram.

I thought I would just do a quick outfit post to get you inspired for some easy, work appropriate pieces as we head back into the week, and the temps start rising.

Orange cardigan, blush flats

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Cardigan- Loft (similar options with several colors), Skirt- Zara, Shoes- 3.1. Phillip Lim, Sunglasses- Michael Kors (lots of options), Jewelry- Midori Linea

It hasn’t really felt much like May the last couple days, or even weeks, and I wanted to style an option that was still bright, fun, but more weather appropriate. I love a big pop of color, and though there might be such a thing as too much color, I really like the way the deep orange of the cardigan goes with the blush of the flats.

Grecian dress at Fountainebleau Hotel

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Dress- Lou Lou Boutiques, Shoes- BCBGMaxazaria, Bag- Zac Posen (linking to some other styles I really love, because I’ve linked my specific bag several times in previous blog posts, including here), Jewelry- Midori Linea

We really did have the best time in Miami the other week! The weather was perfect, the beach was just a dream, and I feel like I came back feeling really refreshed.

Of course I’m especially excited about my outfits, and I still can’t stop obsessing over this grecian-style dress I wore to an event at the Fountainebleau Hotel. I got this piece from Lou Lou Boutiques, the same place and trip I got this adorable blush ruffle dress I blogged about here.

I decided to pair it with these strappy red heels I got at a store closing blowout (I’m a big fan of sales if you haven’t gotten that yet). I think the white and red was such a Miami combination and paired really well together. Also, I feel like I need more strappy heels in my life, which I could wear for both work and play. I thinking about adding these (obsessed!) and these to my wardrobe.

I can’t wait to attend summer events on rooftops, patios, and pools. I’m definitely going to be re-wearing this dress, it’s just so easy and light, and can become a completely different look depending on shoes and accessories.

I’m working on editing my wardrobe and making sure I’m wearing every piece in my closet to give it a proper evaluation. Going in order down the racks can be a style challenge sometimes, but I’m having fun. And I have some really creative looks to blog about. Once I’m through, I’m hoping I’ll have a more streamlined closet, filled with pieces I’m obsessed with.

Have a great week!

Red dress, white sandals

Wearing: Dress- Zara, Sandals- Coach (on sale!), Cardigan- Old (similar here),

Red is one of my favorite colors to wear basically all year round. It’s flattering and in many cases can pass as a neutral. This particular Zara dress has been a longtime go-to, and I’ve been able to style it many ways, but always love this minimalist, classically chic look.
