Printed sheath dress for the office

Wearing: Calvin Klein dress (couldn’t find the exact one since it’s a couple seasons old, but Calvin Klein has some gorgeous options at Macy’s) , Schutz Shoes sandals, Michael Kors Sunglasses

This will be a quick post, but I just wanted to share a really great work dress I recently rediscovered in my closet. I am a big fan of this curve-hugging shape, and absolutely love the print details.

You can wear color on color, here’s how

You can wear color on color, here's how

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Top- Express (similar here, and I also really love this idea), Pants- Loft, Duster- Whistle & Wild (sold out, similar option here), Shoes- Topshop, Earrings- Lou Lou Boutiques (similar here)

Surprise, color! This is the day two outfit of my wear everything in your closet, in order of how it’s hung up challenge. It’s bold, fun, and I really enjoyed sporting this look. Like I wrote in yesterday’s post, it’s helping me get out a bit of a fashion rut and embrace some of the creativity I had lost in my style.

So this top I had bought at Express several years ago, and I always tend to wear it with dark skinny jeans to balance out both the color and the peplum. But I’d done that already and it was time for something different. So what’s different than the usual black? More color of course!

Wearing: T-shirt- Urban Outfitters (sold out but similar here),  Shorts- Current/Elliot, Shoes- Sam Edelman, BagSteve Madden

So it’s July 3rd and you’re sitting there the night before the barbeque or the rooftop party or whatever other gathering you may have to celebrate our nation’s birth, and you’re like shit, what should I wear to said gathering? Well, fear not, because I have an easy, stylish, no fuss idea for you.

Red dress, white sandals

Wearing: Dress- Zara, Sandals- Coach (on sale!), Cardigan- Old (similar here),

Red is one of my favorite colors to wear basically all year round. It’s flattering and in many cases can pass as a neutral. This particular Zara dress has been a longtime go-to, and I’ve been able to style it many ways, but always love this minimalist, classically chic look.

Pops of Color

Wearing: Dress- Calvin Klein, Shoes- 3.1 Phillip Lim (unfortunately they’re currently sold out – similar here), Scarf- Ralph Lauren (similar and other print options here), Cardigan- Theory, Bag- Rebecca Minkoff, Sunglasses- Michael Kors

I’ve talked about styling this dress in this post, but I find myself wearing it with such frequency that it’s worth another look. Back in the winter I was adding some tights, a pair of cute boots, but now that it’s officially springtime, I really feel like color to contrast a classic black is the way to go.

WIW: high-waisted jeans, lace-trim sweater, and a hat

Wearing- Sweater- INC International , Jeans- Free People, Coat- INC International, Boots- The Frye Company, Bag- Zac Posen, Hat- Vintage

A hat is always a good idea! And I feel like we never give hats the attention they deserve. I always want to wear one, but somehow never do it enough. I’ve had this one for a long time, but am really looking to expand my collection. Anyone have any good hats they recommend? I’m really liking this one with a wider brim, and this one is just adorable.

All-American Classics

Wearing: Sweater- Vince, Jeans- Levi’s, Boots- Frye, Coat- White House, Black Market, Bag- Zac Posen

Sometimes you just can’t beat a classic, All-American look. And with quality, timeless pieces, the whole outfit is just easy, elegant, for lack of a better word, a classic.

Mom and I had a really great day shopping in Friendship Heights yesterday, a place with many high end shops like Saks, Neimans, and Bloomingdales. I love walking through dreamy designer handbags, swoon worthy shoes, and trying new fragrances (like the Chanel collection- 1932 is so good, so unique!). We stumbled upon a BCBGMaxaria store that was closing and selling everything for up to 80%. I picked up these gorgeous red sandals (got so lucky with this sale!) that I’m so excited to style!

Wearing: Dress- BCBGMaxazaria, Shoes- 3.1 Phillip Lim, Bag- Zac Posen, Sunglasses- Michael Kors

You might gather that I have a thing for lace. I’ve worn this dress several times for evening occasions, but I really wanted to try a day time look. I think these gorgeous blush lace-up flats really did the trick.

A little mid-week workwear inspiration

img_1083img_1105img_1095img_1100img_1106img_1131img_1129img_1118

Wearing: Coat: LavRore, Top: INC International, Skirt: White House Black Market, Boots: Via Spiga, Sunglasses: Michael Kors, Necklace: Loft

I love a pencil skirt that’s more than just boring black, and this one does not disappoint. It’s actually layered, giving your booty some extra volume. I paired it with a green button down. It gives a bit of oomph to your everyday buttondowns. Actually this whole look does. And I think that’s the point. Workwear can be fun, while still being, well, workwear.

I mixed and matched a striped skirt with a green button down and a red bib necklace. I also topped off the look with this incredible shearling coat. It is so warm and I usually don’t go for browns, but such a rich color. The material is buttery soft. The entire feel is very luxurious. I feel as if I just threw on a bunch of my current favorites together, and made it work. The key is classic cut and fit. Without all the color and pattern, this would be a much more traditional outfit. But I’m obviously not one for traditional.

This look was perfect for the middle of the week to wake up the styling senses a bit and add a pinch of variety to the everyday office attire. It can also transition easily to an after hours networking event or just a drink with close friends.

On Friday I’ll be sharing an outfit I wore last weekend (when it was basically summer!) and talking about how to elevate your (almost) spring weekend look to the next, chicer, level.

When you can fit in a spring dress into your winter wardrobe

img_0842img_0830img_0836img_0847img_0810Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Dress- BCBGMaxazaria, Boots- Guess, Jacket- All Saints

We’ve had a couple of really warm days here in Washington D.C I just had to wear something with a spring vibe. I actually get a lot of use from this dress year round, but it really is beautiful in the springtime. Of course it’s still January, but a girl can dream right?

I love the material of this dress, which is a super light silk cotton mix. It feels incredibly soft against my skin, and so comfortable, I don’t feel constricted in any movement. The sleeves are of course very fun, and sleeves are so in right now. It’s not exactly bell sleeves, but I love how willowy there are. And then there’s the print. I am a sucker for a good print, and I think this one is just bold enough to stand on it’s own but doesn’t overpower.

And that’s really key when pairing this dress with other pieces. It should stand as a stand alone piece, but shoes, outerwear, and accessories can still be interesting without being out of place I decided to go with black lace-up boots and my trusty leather jacket.

Happy Friday to everyone! Hope you all have fun plans for the upcoming weekend!
