I love flowy pieces. I especially love flowy dresses. They’re just so effortless, you throw one on with a pair of boots and a cute accessory like a hat or a long chain necklace and you’ve got the most chic boho outfit set to go. Of course there’s also a point when a flowy dress gets boring, or is used too often to hide parts of our bodies. So how do you make flowy dresses interesting again? Here are my thoughts.

What I’m wearing: Dress- Calvin Klein (similar), Blazer- Ann Taylor , Shoes- (similar) , Bag – Kate Spade

Let’s talk office style. For those days at the office when you have to look good (which should be everyday, but I get it), you can’t go wrong with a sheath dress, a tailored blazer, and a pair of Mary Jane heels. Here’s my take on office style, and what to wear for an important meeting or a presentation. I think this outfit idea exudes professionalism, but keep things stylish and modern.

When you can fit in a spring dress into your winter wardrobe

Wearing: Dress- BCBGMaxazaria, Boots- Guess, Jacket- All Saints

We’ve had a couple of really warm days here in Washington D.C I just had to wear something with a spring vibe. I actually get a lot of use from this dress year round, but it really is beautiful in the springtime. Of course it’s still January, but a girl can dream right?

I love the material of this dress, which is a super light silk cotton mix. It feels incredibly soft against my skin, and so comfortable, I don’t feel constricted in any movement. The sleeves are of course very fun, and sleeves are so in right now. It’s not exactly bell sleeves, but I love how willowy there are. And then there’s the print. I am a sucker for a good print, and I think this one is just bold enough to stand on it’s own but doesn’t overpower.

And that’s really key when pairing this dress with other pieces. It should stand as a stand alone piece, but shoes, outerwear, and accessories can still be interesting without being out of place I decided to go with black lace-up boots and my trusty leather jacket.

Happy Friday to everyone! Hope you all have fun plans for the upcoming weekend!

Polished with a twist

Wearing: Top- Express, Cardigan- Theory, Pants- Catherine Malandrino, Boots- Via Spiga

This is a take on a really polished look, but with a fun printed twist. I always like to take sophistication up a notch. Professional does not mean frumpy! That has always been my mantra, and I’ve tried to demonstrate this by pairing classic pieces in flattering modern cuts, and adding just a pop of fun.

I have absolutely in love with this cashmere cardigan this season. Cashmere is the ultimate luxe fabric, and it’s well worth the investment. It feels so soft, and I love the length of this one, as well as the belt. I’ve linked to a similar one here (on sale!) and here (with lace hem detailing!). It pairs perfectly with this bright top. I’m all about the slight peplum hem. Since the top frays out, I decided on slim fitting pants. These are current, but don’t feel overly trendy. I like this black pair, but also this pair in a different neutral. A look like this is all about balance. Since the top and cardigan are flowy and pull away from the body, it’s important to have structure down below.

No matter where you work, there is a lot of value in looking good. Even if you’re just sitting in a cube, making an effort to look put together will always make you feel more productive and on top of things. When you look good, you feel good!

Shades of Blue

Wearing- Top- Elle, Cardigan- Cynthia Rowley, Skirt- Zara, Boots- Jessica Simpson Collection

Sometimes I realize that I might be wearing too much black, and perhaps I should be infusing more color. The color I most gravitate to (besides black of course) is blue. It’s interesting really, because I don’t have any particular affinity to blue, I actually like red more when I’m trying to be bright, but I guess there’s something about blue that almost makes it a neutral. And that’s worth blogging about.

Blue is a great neutral color because it goes with everything. I mean pair it with black, brown, beige, a print, it’ll work. And it won’t look as predictable. For this outfit, I went with different shades of blue and a contrasting polka dot print blouse. I love the powder blue of this skirt, and it’s such an on trend piece. I got it at Zara, and I highly recommend them for affordable trendy pieces. It comes in a couple different colors as well. The cardigan and the boots are a darker shade of blue, and pull the whole look together. Velvet boots are having such a moment right now, and I am so glad that I have these in my shoe wardrobe. They elevate any look to a much more stylish level. I am crushing on this Rebecca Minkoff pair.

I’ve got a lot more outfit ideas in the works; stay tuned!
