Levi’s and florals

These jeans give my little blogger self life. In a previous decade they may have bordered mom jean territory, but here today, they are effortless perfection. I love the high waist, the buttons, the distressed elements, the cuffed hem. They can be casual or not depending on the pairing, and as I like to say, you just can’t beat that kind of versatility.

Wearing: Dress- Cotton Emporium (unfortunately sold out but I’ve linked others in the post), Sandals- Sam Edelman (on sale!), Sunglasses- Michael Kors (should I get new sunglasses- is it time? What do you guys think of these), Bag- Rebecca Minkoff (similar)

Happy Friday!

I’m a big fan of velvet. And even though it’s not traditionally appropriate for D.C summers, I feel as though this easy t-shirt dress just might make the cut.

Wearing: Top- Loft (similar option), Skirt- White House Black Market (similar, but equally as cute and on sale!), Shoes- Schutz Shoes (I’ve shared the exact pair I’m wearing several times, so here’s a different option that’s a bit more embellished), Jewelry- Midori Linea, Sunglasses- Michael Kors (some cool color options available)

Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone is having a relaxing and fun day off, and have thoroughly enjoyed the long weekend! I’ve been in Minneapolis with my family, and attended a wedding yesterday. I’m headed off to brunch (with a build your own bloody bar- so excited!) before my flight this evening. I’ll have all the outfit details and recap up soon, but for now you can get all the latest updates on Instagram.

I thought I would just do a quick outfit post to get you inspired for some easy, work appropriate pieces as we head back into the week, and the temps start rising.

Orange cardigan, blush flats

IMG_3626

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Cardigan- Loft (similar options with several colors), Skirt- Zara, Shoes- 3.1. Phillip Lim, Sunglasses- Michael Kors (lots of options), Jewelry- Midori Linea

It hasn’t really felt much like May the last couple days, or even weeks, and I wanted to style an option that was still bright, fun, but more weather appropriate. I love a big pop of color, and though there might be such a thing as too much color, I really like the way the deep orange of the cardigan goes with the blush of the flats.

Ruffles at Wynwood Walls

Wearing: Dress- Lou Lou Boutiques, Shoes- Dolce Vita, Bag- Zac Posen, Sunglasses- Michael Kors

The Wynwood Art District was probably my favorite spot (besides the beach of course) that we got the opportunity to go to in Miami. It’s maybe only a couple streets, but essentially it’s a giant outdoor art gallery comprised entirely of large murals that fill up entire walls. It was so cool, a little difficult to put into words. The art is absolutely beautiful, and I really want my home to have an accent mural wall. I don’t know if Greg would agree to that, but I will certainly try to convince him!

Red dress, white sandals

Wearing: Dress- Zara, Sandals- Coach (on sale!), Cardigan- Old (similar here),

Red is one of my favorite colors to wear basically all year round. It’s flattering and in many cases can pass as a neutral. This particular Zara dress has been a longtime go-to, and I’ve been able to style it many ways, but always love this minimalist, classically chic look.

All-American Classics

Wearing: Sweater- Vince, Jeans- Levi’s, Boots- Frye, Coat- White House, Black Market, Bag- Zac Posen

Sometimes you just can’t beat a classic, All-American look. And with quality, timeless pieces, the whole outfit is just easy, elegant, for lack of a better word, a classic.

Mom and I had a really great day shopping in Friendship Heights yesterday, a place with many high end shops like Saks, Neimans, and Bloomingdales. I love walking through dreamy designer handbags, swoon worthy shoes, and trying new fragrances (like the Chanel collection- 1932 is so good, so unique!). We stumbled upon a BCBGMaxaria store that was closing and selling everything for up to 80%. I picked up these gorgeous red sandals (got so lucky with this sale!) that I’m so excited to style!

Red dress, scalloped jacket

Wearing: Dress- Zara, Jacket- INC, Boots- Via Spiga

Happy Monday!

I love red, and this Zara dress does not disappoint! Red is a universally flattering color and adds fun to a look without going overboard. I also think it’s a great color for those who are not big on patterns and prints, as this is definitely not boring, but again, also not too much. Continue reading

WIW: Last Weekend (and what to wear this weekend)

Last weekend was absolutely gorgeous, and this weekend (minus some rain on Saturday) is sure to be another opportunity to wear a pretty sundress, soak up the warmth on the patio, and sip some much deserved rosé. I truly can’t believe how warm it is in February. But hey, no complaints!

Greg and I spent last weekend walking around the 14th St./U St./Shaw neighborhoods. We did a little shopping, did a little drinking, and in general had a good time. And I was able to wear spring clothes! It’s always exciting when we can start incorporating less bundled up pieces into our wardrobe.

This pink ruffled dress is the epitome of spring for me. It’s light and bright and airy. The material is very breathable, which is perfect for spending a lot of time outside. I picked up this number a couple weeks ago, at this cute little boutique by my office. When I first tried it on, I thought I resembled a cupcake (a cute cupcake). But it kept growing on me, and I had to have it. It will actually be perfect for my Miami trip coming up in May, paired with some studded sandals and a fedora. The ruffle is so fun, and such a trend this season! I also really love this one and this one.

But since it’s not technically spring I roughed it up a bit with my go-to black leather Frye boots. These boots match pretty much everything in my closet, look super edgy chic, and are wonderful for walking. The leather is of course beautiful quality, but I will say that it is a bit stiff at the beginning, so be prepared for a breaking-in period. But after that, they’re forever boots. I’m loving not only the classic ones I have on, but also these and these.

And then I topped it off with a little suede jacket featuring razor cutouts and scalloped edges. Surprisingly, I’ve actually had this hanging in my closet for several years, and haven’t gotten too much use out of it. Sometimes we just forget really terrific pieces we already own. I’m happy to say that I’ve rediscovered it, and am wearing it non-stop. Isn’t the spot where the scallops and the ruffle meet so cute?

I hope I’ve given you a couple ideas and some style inspiration for this weekend. The formula is simple: cute dress, boots (or sandals if it really does get that warm), and a cute jacket with detailing. This look also transitions great from day to night; switch out the boots for a pair of heeled peep toe booties like these ones (or wedges), add a clutch and you’re set.

This weekend Greg is out of town visiting his parents, so Jorge (my Jack Russell mix cutie) will be spending the weekend snuggling, and I might even sneak in a shopping trip. Follow my Instagram and Insta Stories for the latest!

A little mid-week workwear inspiration

img_1083img_1105img_1095img_1100img_1106img_1131img_1129img_1118

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Coat: LavRore, Top: INC International, Skirt: White House Black Market, Boots: Via Spiga, Sunglasses: Michael Kors, Necklace: Loft

I love a pencil skirt that’s more than just boring black, and this one does not disappoint. It’s actually layered, giving your booty some extra volume. I paired it with a green button down. It gives a bit of oomph to your everyday buttondowns. Actually this whole look does. And I think that’s the point. Workwear can be fun, while still being, well, workwear.

I mixed and matched a striped skirt with a green button down and a red bib necklace. I also topped off the look with this incredible shearling coat. It is so warm and I usually don’t go for browns, but such a rich color. The material is buttery soft. The entire feel is very luxurious. I feel as if I just threw on a bunch of my current favorites together, and made it work. The key is classic cut and fit. Without all the color and pattern, this would be a much more traditional outfit. But I’m obviously not one for traditional.

This look was perfect for the middle of the week to wake up the styling senses a bit and add a pinch of variety to the everyday office attire. It can also transition easily to an after hours networking event or just a drink with close friends.

On Friday I’ll be sharing an outfit I wore last weekend (when it was basically summer!) and talking about how to elevate your (almost) spring weekend look to the next, chicer, level.
