Cross hiking off your Fall bucket list

What I’m wearing: Tank- Fabletics (couldn’t find the one I’m wearing, but I love this one with mesh detailing), Leggings- Kenneth Cole, Sports bra- Pink (similar)

I’ve had such a fabulous time with my mom, and one of my favorite things that we did this past weekend, was go hiking. It wasn’t aggressive or anything like that, I would definitely need more prep time to do like an actual hike, but it was really nice to walk the trail, enjoy nature (especially in the fall- how freaking gorgeous are the trees?!), and take some pictures. Of course, we also wore cute activewear.

Why you should try DCAcar Service

DCAcar Service

With the abundance of transportation services out there, it’s hard to know which one is going to work best for you and when to take a chance on a new service. I’m here to tell you that DCAcar Service did a fantastic job of picking us up from the airport and dropping us off at our apartment. Seriously, I am one to appreciate a high level of customer service and our driver excelled. There before our flight even landed, he was at the ready. I received a call and then a text message from the driver letting me know he was at the airport and ready for us. We took some time to get off the plane (traveling with a dog will do that to you), and DCAcar made sure to accommodate our schedule with patience and a great attitude. I know you guys can all take Uber or Lyft, but seriously, when it matters, you need to get transportation you know won’t cancel on you or make you wait 15 minutes and then proceed to drop off or pick up three other passengers. Either for yourself, or an important customer or client, they offer unbeatable reliability.

DCAcar Service

After spending an absolutely fabulous weekend in Minnesota, up at the cabin enjoying the lake, the day we had to leave was sad and both Greg and I were so tired. All we wanted to do was get home and rest. And DCAcar Service made sure we did just that. The car was spacious, luxurious, clean, and overall made me us feel very VIP.

  DCAcar service

You can reserve the car service to pick you up at your house and drive you to any of the three D.C. area airports, DCA, IAD, and yes, BWI as well. They can also pick you up from any of these three airports as they did for us, and drive you home. All drivers are extremely professional, on time (really, they’re early), and the black SUV features such goodies as bottled water, hand sanitizers, and mint candy.

There’s just something so luxe about getting a car service and arriving to the airport in style. You can also book them for a variety of events, so if you’re not traveling anywhere, don’t rule them out. They’ve got you covered to and from your next party, outing, or gathering. You can quickly and efficiently reserve your ride at, and also follow them on social media @dcacarservice.

Dinner at Sonoma Restaurant & Wine Bar

The other week Greg and I went to a romantic dinner at Sonoma Restaurant & Wine Bar. I’m a sucker for a good wine bar, and this one did not disappoint. The décor is very cozy with an exposed brick wall, with a few large tables, and many small tables close to each other, with a bench lining the other wall.

I like intimate restaurants like this, with nice mood lighting. The bar was very spacious, which is always a plus. We ended up sitting in this tucked away little table, where I got to sit on the bench. It was just private enough, without us feeling isolated.

On the recommendation of the server, we ordered a bottle of red wine, a French cabernet sauvignon, which was full-bodied with a smooth finish. I don’t like wines that are too sweet or too tangy, and this one was great. It also paired really well with the food.

We started off with a meat and cheese plate, prosciutto with three different kinds of cheeses. I especially loved the truffle cheddar and bleu cheese. Then, on to the main course. I ordered the carbonara, with bacon and an egg yolk. You receive the plate with the egg on top and mix it in yourself, something I loved and thought was a nice touch to the meal. The carbonara was spicy, a definite plus in my book. Greg ordered the carne pizza. It was topped with meats, had a nice red sauce, and a thicker crust. Both portions were generous and we ended up taking some home.

I would recommend this for any date night. It’s romantic, but not too quiet. The wine selection is good, with a chic ambience that isn’t too stuffy. It’s located in Capitol Hill, one of my favorite D.C. neighborhoods. I’m always on the lookout for cute new spots, and I’m really glad we tried this place.

I’m looking forward to this really warm week we have coming up. It’s so exciting to start thinking about all those Spring outfits and enjoying patios!

Sweater Dresses and Raincoat Details

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Dress- Nasty Gal, Shoes- Guess, Raincoat- INC International

Good morning all! It is inauguration day. I thought about not watching, but then I realized I couldn’t just stick my head in the sand. I have to be an active participant. I have to at least watch and take notes and make sure that I am aware, so I can stand up when needed and fight for what I believe. I’m planning on going to the Women’s March tomorrow, and I will have an update on the blog next week.

I wore this super easy look during a rainy day last week. This sweater dress literally takes zero effort, but still looks so good. I always pull it out when I’m stumped on an outfit, or when I need something quick that I know will still look good. This time I’ve decided to let the dress speak for itself and not add too many accessories, but I actually also really love it belted. I’ve tried thin belts and thick ones, and both look good. As you may have noticed, with more classics and basics, I tend to gravitate towards black, but I absolutely love this maroon colors. I’m trying to branch out a little and get more into beiges and reds, which really do pair with pretty much anything.

Though the dress checks off both the cute and comfortable requirements, the raincoat is the true star of this look. I love, love, the ruffled details in the back! It’s so feminine, and so pretty, but still not over the top. I think that because it’s this beautiful blue color, it can get away with more girly accents; if it were pink, it would be too much. With so much rain that we’ve been having here in D.C. (unfortunately not cold enough to snow), a stylish raincoat is a must!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! More looks coming your way next week! And don’t forget that you can get frequent outfit inspiration from my Instagram, whitesilkblackleather.

How to make OTK boots work for daytime

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Top- BCBGMaxazaria, Skirt- Loft, Boots- Stuart Weitzman, Jacket- All Saints

I promise you that you will be seeing lots of posts with me styling these boots. A birthday present from Greg, I am absolutely ecstatic that they’ve arrived, and that they’re everything and more!

Stuart Weitzman has been on my radar for a while now (who’s radar has he not been on?), and I have been lusting for these leggy OTK boots for months now. They’re incredibly comfortable to wear, even with the heel (flat option is available), and very soft both inside and out. Mine are velvet (I’m so excited to own velvet of any kind), but you can also get them in suede. If you want to invest in a pair of stand out boots, that will also work as a staple in your shoe wardrobe and last you for years to come, I highly recommend these. And they’re currently on sale here and on their website. But if you’re not willing to spend, I’ve linked a more budget-friendly option here.

I want to show a look that is appropriate for the daytime, since at first glance they do not seem like day boots. But I always like to be a little bold and push the envelope, and I think with the right supporting pieces, an office or weekday look is easy to create. The key is, because they’re so tall, to make sure no leg is showing (or just a sliver if you have to show something). I paired a flowy, flowery pink skirt to invoke a softer feel, and kept the top black, simple and classic with a high neckline and long sleeves. If it’s chilly out, throw on a jacket and you’re set to go. Here I went with my leather jacket, and I actually love how the velvet and leather juxtapose each other. If you’re thinking something a little more toned down, go with a longer option, kind of like this one.

Be on the lookout for more outfit ideas featuring these boots! Next up, how to make them sexy date night ready!

The business of dressing for business

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Dress- Calvin Klein, Blazer- bought years ago from a little boutique in NYC, Heels- Coach, Watch- Michael Kors

Most of us are hopefully back in the groove of things, getting back to the work flow and our normal schedules.

I wanted to post about a look that would work for a big office meeting or even if you just felt more formal that day. This black sheath dress is my absolute go to for that I-mean-business feeling. It’s form fitting, cut in all the right places and very much office appropriate. Believe it or not, I actually picked this up at TjMaxx. The one in Georgetown has a really great selection of designer pieces at a truly affordable price. I’ve linked to a couple similar ones, here and here.

The rest of the outfit is very simple, with clean lines. I stuck to mostly black, with sheer tights (which are my absolutely musts for winter), and a classic pair of Coach pumps (link). But of course, D.C tends to be too monochromatic a times, so I had to break it up with just a pop of pink on the lapel of my blazer. I also love the shininess of it, and the three-quarter sleeves. The blazer adds that touch of personality, which keeps the look from being too boring. I’ve linked to a similar here that I’m absolutely obsessed with. I highly encourage an investment in a couple interesting blazers, especially if you work at an office or attend business meetings often. They’re so easy to throw on, and help create that instant effortlessly put together vibe.

I appreciate any and all comments! Please let me know what you like, what you don’t like, and if there’s anything you want me to talk about regarding outfits or style advice. Also, don’t forget to check out Instagram for more!

NYE Recap

It’s been almost a week since NYE and what a week it’s been! I’m taking each day as it comes and making it an adventure.

But to go back, Greg and I had the best time at the party hosted at the Marriott Marquis in downtown D.C. Five different ballrooms, each with it’s own themed dance floor. Fun party favors, from headbands to hats, in an assortment of colors. They had a buffet full of these decadent desserts, and we definitely indulged in the raspberry chocolate mousse and pistachio macaroons. The best part (or for some the worst) was that it was an open bar, and we took full advantage!

We spent most of our time in the pop music dance floor, but also wandered to the salsa room, and the 1920’s jazz rooms. At 11:45 pm we were handed a celebratory glass of champagne and at midnight balloons dropped from the ceiling.

It really was a lovely party, and the Marriott Marquis is a beautiful hotel. Very conveniently located right off the Convention Center, and they decked out for the holidays, even featuring a homemade life-size gingerbread house! I would highly recommend a visit, and hope to see what the rooms look like next time.

The vibe of this party was a bit more elegant than something you would wear to a club, so I kept it classy with this gorgeous red off-the-shoulders dress. Red signifies good fortune in 2017. I wasn’t sure about the long sleeves at first, but the minute I tried it on, I knew they were perfect. The lace and body-hugging fit created sex appeal, while the length and the sleeves kept it more formal. I paired it with my classic louboutins and a vintage clutch, and viola! Greg, of course, looked dapper in his blue suit (I made him wear red socks).

I can’t wait to attend more parties this year and wear fabulous dresses and spend fancy occasions with the love of my live. Here’s to the year to come!

Styling a winter white fur vest

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Dress- Ralph Lauren, Vest- Tart Collections, Boots- Via Spiga

It’s been unseasonably warm for this time of year in D.C, so I’ve gotten full use out of my fur vest. When I first bought it, I wasn’t sure how I could pair the winter white, but I’m realizing that there are so many stylish options.

This checkered dress I’ve had for a while, and I love wearing it to the office because it’s so easy, but also incredibly comfortable. And I’m all about the three-quarter sleeves for warmth. The slight white lines on the dress matches the white of the vest perfectly, and it’s just awesome when outfit comes together so seamlessly. To add just a bit of edge and sparkle, I went with my go-to gold studded booties and kept the rest of the accessories to a minimum.

I hope the first couple days of the year are shaping up to be productive and full of happiness! I am getting a start on my goals and learning not to let the little things get to me. It’s all about attitude and being able to adjust.

Sweater Dress Love

Wearing: Dress- BCBGMaxazaria, Tights- H&M, Shoes- Guess, Bag- Rebecca Minkoff, Sunglasses- Michael Kors

I’m sorry I haven’t written in a bit, Thanksgiving weekend was long and super busy! I went to see my family back in Minnesota. I’m home now and ready to style, post, and talk about more outfits than ever!

Happy December 1st, which is by far my most favorite month of the year! I am sure that I’m not the only one who feels this way, but there’s something just so special about the holiday season. Especially the clothes! There’s so many fun clothes to wear, from sparkly dresses, to velvet anything, to cozy luxe sweater dress.

Today’s post is featuring the most incredible sweater dress I picked up at a Black Friday sale last week. I saw it on the rack and I just couldn’t resist! 50% off! What I really love about this piece is how luxe and classic it looks, but also there’s so many fun details. The length is unexpected, and really lets the dress take center stage. The slit is sexy, but not too much. And my favorite detail, the sleeves. Oh, how I adore these sleeves! Bell sleeves have been so in recently, and this a more classic take on the trend.

The rest of the look is fairly basic. Classic black bag with plenty of room for essentials, sheer black tights and chunky boots to keep warm, and of course my sunnies. I just feel so luxurious wearing this sweater dress, and am so excited to keep it on rotation all winter long! I would style a versatile piece like this anywhere from the office to a lunch to a cozy red wine filled dinner.

Stay tuned for more looks next week and don’t forget to follow me on my Instagram, WhiteSilkBlackLeather, in the meantime!

The Will to Fight

Photography: Greg Beuning

Wearing: Vest- Tart Collections, Sweater- Express, Jeans- DL1961, Boots- Guess, Bag- Kate Spade, Sunglasses- Michael Kors

It has truly been a tumultuous week. But in all our anger and despair, we must find love. Now more than ever, is the time to be strong and to fight.

I thought I was going to be doing a much different post. I thought I was going to be bubbly with joy and go on and on about how proud I was and how the white in this shoot against the backdrop of the U.S Capitol represents one of the biggest triumphs in the suffragist and women’s rights movement. But I’m not.

And I’ve taken a couple days to think about it, and though I am far from being ok, I am more determined than I have ever been to be a person who sparks change. A person that is kind, and loving, and open. A person who speaks up when something is wrong, and a person who accepts other people. I now have a stronger will and a longer endurance. We now all must. In the words of Hillary Clinton, “it is always worth it to fight for what is right.”
