What I’m wearing: Shirt- Armani (men’s), Skirt- Zara, Heels- Coach, Bag- Rebecca Minkoff
I’ve posted about this leather skirt tons before (check out here and here), but this time I really wanted to show you guys how to style it for the workplace. Recently I’ve been all about finding creative ways to look chic at the office. If you want to wear a flowy dress, read this post about how to jazz it up, and if you want to look your most business professional while still being fun and expressing your stylish personality, read my post about this amazing sheath dress.
And now if you want to wear a leather, I have the perfect, most effortless outfit idea for you.
Really, it’s easy to wear leather in a professional setting as long as it’s paired with something more conservative. In this case, I went with a white button down and classic black pumps. I mean it can’t get more effortless than that. Though I love a put together outfit, I also like when that outfit doesn’t actually take a long time to put together, and I think in this case, you grab the basics out of your closet and make them work around the skirt.
So another thing that makes this particular leather skirt work for the daytime is the cut. It’s a pencil skirt, in leather format. This makes it much less clubby and much more staff meeting. I recommend sticking to actual work pieces, but looking for alternatives in leather material. This one is on my wish list, but here’s a similar version at a more affordable price point.
And I think what really makes this look work is the loose fitted button down. This is the most classic shirt you could possibly own, and it’s funny because it’s actually Greg’s, but I almost like a men’s one better because it’s a more relaxed feel. It’s the perfect balance to the tightness of the skirt. If you can’t find a man’s shirt to steal, I am loving this one that resembles a more masculine cut, and although I love the black and white combo, this silky red one would be a great pop of color. And speaking of silk, I think silk and leather work well together.
To complete the outfit, I added a pair of black heels and a classic structured work bag. I’ve linked some great black heels here, here, and if you’re looking for investment, you can’t go wrong with these. I’ve also linked some of the work bags I’m currently lusting for here and here. I’m actually on the hunt for one, so if you have a recommendation or a brand you love, let me know in the comments below.
I think fashion is about taking risks, being unique, but also balancing with what you know will work. That’s why this look is really no stress. It’s just two pieces (plus accessories), and one is a button down, which I know you have lying around. And the next pencil skirt you buy, consider getting a leather skirt. You might surprise yourself.
Happy Friday to everyone! Do you have fun plans for the weekend? My mom is coming to visit tonight, and I’m so excited to spend time with her!
