On warm fall days, I love light fall layers. I want to dress warm enough to be comfortable, but not hot. Because the weather is volatile, and can often change hourly in Washington D.C, layers are the way to go. In this look, I went for a bolder mix of prints and cuts, and paired them with classic details to create a truly unique outfit.
Leopard print is a fun way to add some pattern to a mostly black and white outfit, and it’s really the standout piece of this look. But that doesn’t mean the rest has to be so muted that all personality is stripped. It just means that the details are bit subtler. This Material Girl tank has a great racerback and is actually long enough to be a dress in the summer, with lace detailing at the bottom. Since I was going to work though, I tucked it into a great flippy Rebecca Taylor skirt, and added a white cardigan with side detailing.
To add a bit of structure to the look, and bring it a more office feel, I added a pair of men-inspired loafers. I’ve been really into loafers recently, and I finally found an affordable pair that I can take from the office to the weekend. I love that they look just as stylish with a pencil skirt as with jeans. Of course, I had to make sure they fit my personality, and I just love the gold buckle detail.
I think this outfit is so versatile for fall. I slipped on a pair of patterned leggings to add a feminine touch, but it could easily be worn without. I also had my leather jacket in case the temperature dropped. This look is great, because to transition it to a different occasion, all you really have to do is change one piece. Swap the loafers for a pair of heeled boots, and you have a date night look. Don’t be afraid to be bold with prints and details. It’ll make you shine so much brighter!
